"A Measure of Red" - 2009 - Southland Museum and Art Gallery - Invercargill |

I have drawn since early childhood. Every piece of paper was covered with drawings. Some I still have as my Mother kept them.
Art, and the making of art, has been my whole life from commercial beginnings to finally engrossing myself fully after marriage and bringing up my family. I have successfully exhibited in solo and group shows over the years. My works are held in public galleries and in private national and international collections.
I love painting and enjoy the challenge of movement and theatre in my work. I feel privileged to see the beauty and drama of southern New Zealand.
Red, the colour, reminds me of energy and of the red satin ballet shoes I once owned. Red is seductive and weaves its way through my psyche. I close my eyes after looking towards the sun and I see red comforting and nourishing as blood, autumn and flowers, fires, fruit, skies, earth and sun.
The measure of red
A garment of red clouds
Unfolding over southern skies
From palest pink evening mist
To the north west dark, chestnut reds
At sunset.
These images have inspired me to paint this series.
